Wanderers: a short film presenting humanity's expansion into the Solar System
Would we leave Earth? The trope of humans fleeing our planet for the stars is extremely common and has been popularized in all forms of media, with the various Star Trek series showing human mastery of space travel. Current views see space travel as an option, not as a necessity. The advancements necessary to safely travel to the closest stars only a few light years away would likely solve all of the Earth's resource issues and provide stability here at home.
In the short film Wanderer, Erik Wernquest pairs Carl Sagan's spoken thoughts with views of humans at various locations within our solar system. "For all its material advantages, the sedentary life has left us edgy, unfulfilled." Sagan himself reads these words and explains his view that our "everlasting itch for things remote" will push us beyond the limitations of our planet.
A beautiful piece of art, the four minutes of Wanderers stokes the imagination. It's an uplifting video, bound to make your day a bit brighter.
